Guyangan

Guyangan Waterfall : but where is the waterfall ?

Guyangan Waterfall, also known as Peguyangan Waterfall on Google Maps, is a stunning destination in Nusa Penida. However, you should not expect a traditional waterfall cascading down the cliff. You will only see a small waterfall coming from the overflow pipe of a water tank, which is used to pump the spring water distributed throughout the island. Guyangan Waterfall is easily accessible, situated a mere 45-minute drive from Crystal Bay or Toyapakeh.

On top of the stairs

A giddy descent to Guyangan Waterfall

Guyangan Waterfall is an awesome place and holds its success of three factors. First the blue staircase that goes down along the cliff and allows beautiful pictures. Then, the breathtaking view of the cliffs of Nusa Penida island. And finally, down the stairs and after crossing a small temple, a natural pool sculpted into the rock of the cliff. You can cool off after a descent that could be described as dizzying. And above all you can safely face the waves that break on the edge of the cliff. Guaranteed sensations !

Let’s go down !

A colorful temple

You will also see downstairs a rather nice temple. Do not forget to take your sarong because otherwise you will have to rent one at the top of the stairs before going down. I am not sure who is represented by the three statues dressed in blue, white and red. But I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with the French flag. If you know more, please tell me in a small comment at the bottom of this article !

Segara Kidul Temple

Just after this temple you will find some other small temples. Last time I went there it was Kajeng Kliwon day and I met many people who came there from Bali to pray.

Infinity pools built in the cliff

After the temple you will find a succession of small infinity pools built in the cliff. My advice is to leave your smartphones and your stuff before trying to reach them because the stone is very slippy. If you have a waterproof camera or a GoPro take it with you because the photos can be pretty spectacular. Especially if the waves break just in front of you when you are in the last infinity pool, a few meters above the sea level.

Manta point

Before arriving at Guyagan Waterfall, you will see a sign for Manta Point on the left. When arriving or leaving it is worth taking this little detour. After about 5 minutes you will arrive at a white temple. And behind this temple you will have a beautiful view from the cliff on Manta Point. Dive centers come here because Manta rays come, almost every day of the year, to be cleaned of their parasites at the cleaning stations located there. And if you are lucky you will see them from the cliff ! But the best way to see them is still to come and dive at Manta Point. For example with Warnakali diving center.
