Most travellers see Nusa Penida in a single day. It’s a fine way to catch the highlights β but it’s also a race against the clock: you rush between viewpoints, eat lunch in a hurry, and jump back on the boat before sunset. Yet the best of Nusa Penida comes out exactly when the day boats have gone: the late-afternoon light, the empty roads, and that sunset over Mount Agung you never see on a day trip. That’s the whole idea of this 2-day, 1-night stay β you keep the best of the classic day trip from Bali, but instead of heading back you spend the night on the island, then choose your own programme on day two.

The stay at a glance
- Day 1: west coast of Nusa Penida (Kelingking, Crystal Bay, Broken Beach) + lunch at Amok.
- Night: Adiwana Warnakali, the island’s first 4-star boutique resort, facing Mount Agung.
- Day 2 (your choice): the wild east coast Β· manta-ray snorkelling Β· or scuba diving.
- Return: Bali at the end of day 2.
- Price: from $168 / 2,695,000 IDR per person (group of 5β6, Discovery option).
Why two days instead of one?
A day trip is perfect if you’re short on time. But it has three limits that the two-day version removes completely:
- The pace. In a day you cover the west coast at a run to fit everything before the last boat. In two days you breathe β time at each spot, a proper lunch, and energy left for day two.
- The sunset and the night. The big absentee of day trips. From your sea-view room you watch Ceningan island and Mount Agung turn gold at dusk, then a sky full of stars far from any light pollution.
- The day-two choice. A night on the island opens up experiences impossible to fit into one day: the wild east coast, snorkelling with manta rays, or even a dive.
Day 1 β the west coast & lunch at Amok
Day one follows our classic west-coast day trip: a morning fast boat from Sanur to Toyapakeh, then a private driver-guide for the island’s west-coast icons β Kelingking Beach and its T-Rex cliff, Broken Beach, Angel’s Billabong and Crystal Bay. Lunch is at Amok Sun & Cliff Club, perched above the cliff. The big difference with the day trip: at the end of the day you don’t take the boat back β you head to your hotel for the night.
The night β Adiwana Warnakali
This is the heart of the stay. Adiwana Warnakali was the first 4-star boutique hotel to open on Nusa Penida, a few minutes from Toyapakeh harbour. Its 15 suites all face the sea β you wake up with Ceningan island and Mount Agung in front of you, as if on the deck of a ship. Arriving at the end of day one, you have time for the pool and the ironwood sundeck, a cocktail at sunset, then dinner at the sea-facing restaurant β one of the best tables on the island. There’s also a spa for Balinese massages facing the ocean, and an integrated PADI dive centre, Dune Penida, for those who want to dive on day two.

Day 2 β choose your program
This is the point of staying over: day two is yours. Two options open to everyone, plus a third for those who want to dive. You tell us your choice when you book, and everything is arranged. In all cases you return to Bali at the end of day two.
Option 1 β the East Coast
The wilder, quieter half of the island: the sacred cave temple of Goa Giri Putri, then the clifftop panorama over Atuh Beach and Diamond Beach and the Thousand Islands viewpoint β the same program as our east-coast day trip, at a relaxed pace, before the boat back to Bali.

Option 2 β manta-ray snorkelling
One of the most magical experiences on Nusa Penida: snorkelling above the manta rays at Manta Point. These gentle giants β over 4 meters across β come to be cleaned in this relatively sheltered bay. No diving skills needed: a mask, fins, and you watch them glide beneath you. A half-day at sea, then the boat back to Bali.

Option 3 β scuba diving (for divers and the curious)
If going under the surface tempts you, swap the snorkelling for a real dive with Dune Penida, the resort’s integrated PADI 5-star centre. Already certified? Head to Manta Point, Crystal Bay or Gamat Bay with an instructor who knows every site β valuable, because Nusa Penida’s currents are technical. Never dived? This is where the night really pays off: you do your pool session the evening before (the centre has a 3-metre pool, unique on Bali), then your first sea dive the next day, already at ease. See our Nusa Penida diving guide for more.

Nusa Penida 2 days 1 night FAQ
Is Nusa Penida worth staying overnight, or is a day trip enough?
A day is enough to see the west-coast highlights (Kelingking, Broken Beach, Crystal Bay). But two days let you enjoy the sunset and the night on the island, explore the wilder east coast, and snorkel with manta rays without rushing. If your schedule allows it, two days are a far more complete and relaxed experience.
Where do you stay on the 2-day trip?
At Adiwana Warnakali, the island’s first 4-star boutique hotel, with 15 sea-view suites facing Mount Agung, a restaurant, a spa and an integrated PADI 5-star dive centre. It’s a few minutes from Toyapakeh harbour, an ideal base for this kind of stay.
Can you see manta rays without knowing how to dive?
Yes. At Manta Point the manta rays are easily seen while snorkelling, with a mask and fins, in a sheltered bay. No experience is needed. You can also meet them on a dive, including a first-time discovery dive.
Can you do a first-time dive on this trip?
Yes, and the overnight stay is an advantage. You can do your pool session the evening before, in Dune Penida’s 3-metre pool, then your first sea dive the next day already at ease β an ideal, safe progression that’s impossible to fit into a single day.
How do you get back to Bali?
Whatever your day-two choice, the return to Bali is by fast boat at the end of day two, from Toyapakeh harbour to Sanur or Padang Bai.
How much should I budget for 2 days on Nusa Penida?
From $168 / 2,695,000 IDR per person (group of 5β6, Discovery option with the east coast on day two). The manta-snorkelling option adds about $44 per person; the diving option is on request. Per-person prices are higher for smaller groups.
