Amok opened on Nusa Penida in August 2018 and, now rebranded Amok Sun & Cliff Club, has become one of the island’s must-do spots for a clifftop lunch and for sunset. Its location is exceptional: perched 120 metres above the ocean, facing the sunset on one side and Mount Agung on the other, right next to Gamat Bay. If the idea of sipping a signature cocktail in an infinity pool 120 metres up while the sun goes down sounds tempting, read on β or take a peek at this video, put together by Amok’s own guests.

The place: bamboo architecture and two infinity pools
The concept rests on a clear priority: respect for the environment and the use of local materials. Bamboo structures the whole venue, and the traditional Alang-Alang roof echoes Balinese architecture. The large central Bale Bale houses the restaurant and bar, facing the pool and the sunset. Around it, two separate dining areas, two bars, a sundeck with daybeds and parasols, and a tropical garden step down in terraces to the edge of the cliff. The view changes at every level β Mount Agung on one side, the open ocean and the sunset on the other.

There are two infinity pools, open from 11 am. The main pool has a shallow beach on each side to lie back in the water, plus a shallow central area β perfect for a quiet afternoon after lunch, or a last dip at dusk. Up in the bamboo platforms, the Nests sit three metres high and offer a private 360Β° view over Mount Agung, the sea and the Nusa Penida landscape.

From lunch to sunset to night
Amok is open daily from 11 am to 11 pm. There are three moments to know when planning your visit:
- Lunch (11 amβ3 pm). Bright light on Mount Agung, a quiet pool and lower prices than the evening β the most relaxed time of day, with plenty of room around the pool.
- Sunset (5.30β7 pm). The highlight. Golden light hits the cliff, the music shifts to lounge, and the best tables fill up β booking is strongly recommended from 4 pm.
- Dinner and beyond (7β11 pm). Full menu, wines from around the world and signature cocktails. The Sun Cliff Beat nights (live DJ, lounge then Latin house) punctuate the calendar.

A local team and a menu designed on site
The Amok team was recruited and trained in spring 2018, with a third of the staff from Nusa Penida itself. The cocktail menu was created with two Bali-trained bartenders β Agus, from Batu Madeg village on Nusa Penida, and Arif, from Lombok. Mocktails are made with fresh fruit juice; the cocktails use vodka, gin, rum, tequila and whisky, as well as a local arak. There’s also a wide selection of wines by the glass or the bottle, and a happy hour with a buy-one-get-one offer on selected cocktails and wines.
The restaurant menu was designed by Chef Amel, from Jakarta: international fusion cuisine adapted to fresh, local ingredients, with vegetarian and vegan dishes too. The full menu is on amoksunset.com/menu.
How to get to Amok
From Bali (day trip). The easiest option is the Day-Trip Package above: Amok handles the crossing and the transfer on the island. Otherwise, take a fast boat from Sanur (about 40 minutes), then a taxi on the island β every driver knows Amok. See our guide on how to get to Nusa Penida from Bali.
From your Nusa Penida hotel. By scooter or taxi. From Toyapakeh, take the first intersection on the right toward Crystal Bay and Gamat Bay. At the fork, take the small paved path on the right signed “Amok Sunset” and follow it to the end (halfway along, the road is no longer paved β that’s normal, and the signs confirm you’re on the right track).
If you’d rather not ride a scooter back at night, Amok runs a free shuttle between the main road (at the fork) and the restaurant β there’s usually one about every 30 minutes in the evening. Ask for times on WhatsApp, and park your scooter at the fork.

Stay for the sunset: spend the night in Nusa Penida
The last boat from Nusa Penida leaves at 5 pm. To enjoy sunset at Amok without rushing for the ferry, plan at least one night on the island. About 25 minutes away, on the north coast, the Adiwana Warnakali dive resort has 15 ocean-view rooms and an “Island Sunset Discovery” package that includes dinner at Amok the same evening, with return transport. It’s the complete way to experience Amok at sunset, dinner and a good night’s sleep β with no return logistics. Use the code AWK for 10% off direct bookings.
