Toyapakeh Harbour, or more precisely Banjar Nyuh, is often the initial point of contact with Nusa Penida island, as most speed boat companies from Bali dock at this destination port. The small port in front of the beach serves as the starting point for snorkeling tours, as well as boats headed towards Nusa Lembongan and the Gili Islands.
You can find at Toyapakeh port some small warungs next to the beach. My favorite is Warung Restu. You will also find basic accommodation. But you will most probably not stay there and find someone to drive you to your hotel or rent you a scooter. Toyapakeh may not be very glamorous at first sight but it is one of the places I like a lot in Nusa Penida. Read why !
Toyapakeh is a one of the great diving site in Nusa Penida. Currents are often important. You will therefore have the pleasure to admire the corals and the aquatic fauna by letting you carried by the current. And if you are lucky you will also have a superb view of Mount Agung. You can also practice snorkeling, but preferably under the supervision of a boat.
We really like Toyapakeh dive site because of its large diversity of flora and fauna. Many schools of platax, fusiliers, sweetlips and jacks. In the blue, we can regularly admire tunas and giant trevallies. We may also meet there a Mola Mola, from time to time, during the season. The flora is dense and you can observe many species of crabs, shrimps and nudibranchs. Macro lovers will love Toyapakeh dive site !
Toyapakeh is also the starting point for snorkeling tours that will usually bring you to Manta Bay to see the manta rays, then to Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay, and eventually to the statues of Buddha, sunk in front of Nusa Ceningan island. The snorkeling trip usually ends up drifting along the Toyapakeh wall of coral untill the beach.
You can also walk a small path that runs along the sea and passes under the three large houses in the form of huts. Dune Penida Dive resort is about 500 meters away. And Dune Penida dive shop is based here. If you see a group of people wearing orange T-shirts on the port, it will likely be Dune Penida staff waiting for the arrival or return of the center divers.
You can see on the photo below the roofs of Dune Penida dive resort. And there is also the gray facade of the 3 meter deep pool which is used for training and pool discovery dives.
Toyapakeh port is also the starting point for small boats, public or private, that shuttle with Nusa Lembongan island. The trip will only take 10 minutes and can be fun, although there is less to do in Nusa Lembongan than in Nusa Penida. You can also book a ticket to the Gili islands there. A small boat will bring you from the beach to a platform between Ceningan and Lembongan islands where you will catch the fast boat.
Toyapakeh is also the only Muslim village on the island. So do not be surprised if most women wear a headscarf.
