Safety tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tourists often showcase their creativity to capture unique photographs, but some may take their adventures too far. In 2019, a press article reported a tragic incident at Kelingking Beach, where a young Russian girl <strong>fell off a cliff while riding a scooter. Shockingly, the article stated that the scooter remained intact at the top of the cliff. Unfortunately, many more accidents have occurred since the reopening of the borders. <\/strong>In February 2023, swimming at Kelingking Beach was officially <strong>forbidden<\/strong> after a European tourist drowned while trying to rescue another swimmer caught in violent waves. Sadly, this has not stopped people from entering the water. Today, an average of one person per month loses their life here due to drowning. Unfortunately, even more casualties may occur once the lift to the beach is completed and becomes operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-be-careful-when-you-go-down-to-the-beach\">Be careful when you go down to the beach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you plan to hike down the cliff to the beach (which I highly recommend!), please exercise caution. <strong>Bring plenty of water<\/strong> to stay hydrated, <strong>wear a hat<\/strong> to prevent <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">sunburn, and, most importantly,&nbsp;<strong>wear proper footwear<\/strong><\/span>. The first time I descended, I made the mistake of wearing flip-flops, which was a poor choice. While the allure of swimming may be irresistible, be wary of the powerful waves and currents that can carry you out to sea. Even if you don\u2019t plan to hike all the way down, it\u2019s worth walking a short distance along the narrow trail that follows the ridgeline. From here, you\u2019ll find quieter viewpoints, sweeping panoramas, and perfect photo opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A little tip: take your photos before starting the descent. The climb back up can be exhausting, and you may not look quite as fresh for the camera! The first section of the trail, up to the first bend, is relatively easy and gives you a good sense of what\u2019s ahead. At that point, you can decide whether you have the determination to continue down to the beach\u2014or whether to opt for other, more accessible spots such as <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nusapenida.org\/crystal-bay\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crystal Bay<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nusapenida.org\/atuh-beach-diamond-beach\/\" target=\"_blank\">Atuh Beach<\/a><\/span>, especially if you\u2019re traveling with children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few years ago, a fire destroyed much of the vegetation and the ropes and wooden posts that made the descent easier. Fortunately, the trail has since been rebuilt and is now safer. Don\u2019t be discouraged halfway: the return hike is actually more manageable than the way down. Signs clearly state that access to the beach is solely the responsibility of the individual. He was clearly either madly in love\u2014or extremely jealous!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The double descent<\/strong> : Another tourist, after reaching his scooter, realized he had left his keys on the beach. He had no choice but to climb down the cliff path again. Luckily, he found them! I also met a traveler whose child forgot their swimsuit on the sand. The result? The same punishing double descent to retrieve it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Daily trips to the beach<\/strong> : Local vendors now carry coolers down the trail each day to sell cold drinks on the beach. Curiously, they ignore the law of supply and demand, charging the same prices as everywhere else. They usually leave once their stock runs out, although some make multiple trips to restock throughout the day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The beach down at Kelingking is stunning. But, as with everywhere on Nusa Penida island, <strong>be cautious<\/strong> of strong waves and currents that could pull you away. This initiative aims to make Kelingking Beach more accessible while preserving the site&rsquo;s natural beauty and environmental integrity. By integrating this new infrastructure, local authorities hope to attract even more visitors while ensuring their safety and comfort. Whether you love it or hate it\u2026 A crane has already been installed to construct the elevator. And personally, I think it detracts from the landscape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 31, 2025, a special provincial committee inspected this controversial glass lift project. The inspection revealed that the development is located within a disaster-mitigation zone and lacks complete permits. As a result, the construction of the Kelingking Beach elevator was temporarily suspended and sealed by the Bali police pending clarification of its legal status. Although there haven&rsquo;t been any accidents yet, I have no intention of trying it for at least a year. The price was 2,7 million in cash for the few seconds it takes to fall off the cliff.
